Red Hot Chili Peppers history

The Red Hot Chili Peppers, established by four close friends in 1983 in a Hollywood living room. The friends were all from the same high school, Fairfax High School. Hillel Slovak, Anthony Kiedis, Flea and Jack Irons performed in a rehearsal for a performance that was set to take place at the Rhythm Lounge. They performed one song, "Out In L.A." which remained their opening song for live performances for the following shows. They soon found themselves to have a fairly decent following within the L.A. area, especially for a small group that had not yet released an album.

Hillel Slovak passed away in June 1988, leaving Anthony, Flea and Jack crushed at the loss of such a close friend. Jack Irons left the band shortly after his beloved friend's passing, as he could no longer handle the constant reminder of his friend's demise. Jack Irons soon thereafter left the group and began playing with another popular group, Pearl Jam.

Anthony and Flea agreed to continue with the group, not allowing the sadness of the loss of a friend to take over their lives. Although the sadness never went away, they chose to keep the Red Hot Chili Peppers alive, as it was their lives for the past five years. They began a search for who would become the newest members of the band that so many people had grown to love dearly. They did not know however, that they were about to find not only two new members of their family but also two new top of the line musicians and life long friends as well.

John Frusciante, at a mere 18 years of age, talented guitarist, previously known by Flea was literally stumbled upon. It just so happened that Anthony was at a try out for another band. This is pretty much how John became a part in the Red Hot Chili Peppers band, and family. As far as finding a drummer that could fit the criteria of a Red Hot Chili Pepper, well this was a bit harder of a task. After numerous auditions and no luck, the Red Hot Chili Peppers found Chad Smith. A talented, fun and high spirited drummer, that seemed to be all the Chili Peppers were looking for, and maybe a little more.

In June 1990, the Red Hot Chili Peppers were introduced at the Greak Theater in Los Angelos, California, by the one and only David St. Hubbins, from the group known as Spinal Tap.
